As an Artist, I’ve always been fascinated with narratives, people, and the places we find ourselves. As I’ve grown older, I continually find myself drawn back to these core themes – to the core of what it means to be human, alive, and engaged. As a student of history, largely inspired by a love of history passed down to me by my Mom, Regina, I can’t help but notice the recurring times that people time-and-again focus on things that divide us – losing sight of the fact that there are more things that bind and connect us than divide. It’s because of that that I focus on the beauty of the everyday, simple moments. It is in those moments that you catch a glimpse of the beauty of the human experience, and we see the beauty of life that God created – that people all-too-often try to hide behind a “mask” to “protect” themselves from connecting with others. Something we see extended into digital consumption, and the increasing disconnect of individuals from their fellow human beings. It’s my hope that my work – capturing those quick glimpses of the beauty of humanity might help us re-bridge the gap to rediscover and reforge the ties that bind so that we can continue to find the beauty of life – the beauty of the everyday.
